Bacteria

Bacteria are single celled micro-organisms that are found everywhere! They live in massive communities numbering the millions of cells and can grow very quickly – sometimes as quick as 20 minutes!

Bacteria are essential for life on Earth, and have a very important role in the recycling of nutrients and minerals in the environment.

BUT, many bacteria are not quite so helpful, and may cause infection and disease – these would be called ‘pathogenic bacteria’.
