Infection: Meningitis. Causes swelling of the protective layers around the brain.

Symptoms: High temperature, cold hands/feet, confusion, muscle pain, vomiting, headache, stiff neck, very sleepy, fits/seizures.

Bacteria:

• Neisseria meningitidis (Nice-see-ree-ah men-in-jit-tid-is)

• Streptococcus pneumoniae (Strep-toe-cock-us new-moan-eeh-ay)

• Listeria monocytogenes (Liss-tear-ree-ah mon-oh-site-or-jen-ease)
