Dermatophytes (ringworm fungus)

Dermatophytes are tiny fungi that can infect your skin, hair and nails. Their scientific name Dermatophytes literally means “skin plants”.

These microorganisms like warm and moist places, and they cause things like athlete's foot and ringworm. You can get them from touching someone else who has it, or touching things they have touched.

If you get infected, you might need special medicine to make it go away.
