And the Award Goes to…
Jon is far too nice and modest to run around showing off his new shiny award. So we do it for him and celebrate his outstanding achievement.
Every year the School of Medicine at Cardiff University recognises people for doing something very special in a particular area. This can be someone doing research. Or teaching. Or helping other people.
They call it the Staff Appreciation and Recognition (STAR) Awards.
This year, our very own Superbugs lead scientist Jon Tyrrell was nominated for a STAR Award for his “Outstanding Contribution to Engagement Activities”.
And he won!
Earlier this year, Jon already reached another outstanding achievement - he won the Welsh heat of the FameLab competition and reached the UK finals!
FameLab is an international competition to find and support the world's most talented new science communicators. Participants have three minutes to win over the judges and audience with a scientific talk that excels for its content, clarity and charisma.
Could you inspire and educate a live audience about your work in science, technology, maths or engineering – in just three minutes?
This year was even harder because of the pandemic. Could you inspire and educate a live audience about your work over Zoom??
Judge for yourself what you think about Jon’s presentation!
Congratulations to Jon on behalf of the rest of the Superbugs teams!
Well done!!
