Our first publication! 📜

We are thrilled that our paper “Superbugs: raising public awareness of antimicrobial resistance through a pop-up science shop” has now been published in the journal Research For All.

The full paper can be read on the Research For All website.

We would like to thank all the volunteers and helpers for their efforts in supporting the project, without whom the project would not have been possible (in alphabetical order): Raya Ahmed, Abdullah Almusallam, Sarah Baker, Rebecca Bayliss, Ian Boostrom, Simone Cuff, Karen Edwards, Refath Farzana, Ana Ferreira, Hyun-Sun Jin, Giulia Lai, Mei Ling, Mark Ponsford, Edward Portal, Savitha Radhakrishan, Jacob Rees, Georgina Russell, Mike Roberts, Kirsty Sands, Louise Stack, Mark Toleman, Lucas Tselepis, Timothy Walsh, Janis Weeks and Qiu Yang.

Special thanks are extended to Marie-Claire Bell and Emma Widlake, who went beyond the call of duty. Further thanks must go to Thomas Greaves of Morgans Consult, whose support in delivering the installation of the exterior and interior design and fitting of ‘Superbugs’ was unwavering.

A thank you to the British Society for Immunology, who provided important support to our grant application and to the event itself. Finally, a thank you to GiantMicrobes for their generous provision of cuddly microbes to be used as display items and prizes to be won.

The project was specifically funded by a Wellcome Trust ISSF3 Public Engagement Proof-of-Concept Award. The project received further contingency support from the Systems Immunity Research Institute.

Research time for Jonathan Tyrrell across the timescale of the project to publication was funded by ENABLE (European Gram-Negative Antibacterial Engine) of IMI’s ND4BB, and grant NE/N01961X/1 of the Antimicrobial Resistance Cross Council Initiative, supported by seven UK research councils.
