Viruses

Viruses are the most numerous micro-organisms on the planet – there are more viruses than there are all the other micro-organisms put together!

They are also the smallest, and spend most of their life actually living within other cells – in plant cells, animal cells and even inside bacteria!

And you know what? They are not really alive.

They can’t move, they don’t replicate themselves and they don’t process nutrients like ‘proper’ cells. Instead, they are more like a computer code that hijacks and reprogrammes living cells to multiply.

And it is this reprogramming and multiplication that often causes disease.
